IMPREGNATION & MAINTENANCE OF NATURAL STONE

Why impregnate?

Limestone, marble, and travertine are refined natural stones that require careful care. Their porous and fragile nature easily absorbs moisture, grease, and dirt. Acidic substances like wine, citrus juices, vinegar, or carbonated beverages can cause dulling or etching, while oil and grease leave permanent stains if not removed immediately.

For long-term protection of the stone, we recommend impregnating the surface. An initial, professional treatment applies a protective layer that helps repel liquids and dirt. This isn't an absolute guarantee against stains, but it does significantly slow down the process. For lasting results, it's wise to reapply the impregnating agent at least once a year.

How to impregnate?

Impregnating mosaic or natural stone tiles yourself is easy, provided you work carefully.

  1. Make sure the stone is completely dry and clean before you start.
  2. Remove any residue of grout or dust, as this may reduce its effectiveness.
  3. Always use an impregnating agent that is specifically suitable for calcareous natural stone such as marble and travertine.
  4. Choose a transparent product if you want to maintain the natural color, or a color-enhancing product if you want to make the shade more intense.
  5. Apply the product evenly with a soft cloth or roller, also over the joints.
  6. Allow it to soak in for the indicated time and then remove any excess product with a dry cloth to avoid shiny spots.
  7. Allow the tiles to harden thoroughly before using or loading them again.

Daily maintenance

For daily maintenance, keep it simple.

  • Clean with a slightly damp microfiber cloth.
  • For light soiling, use a mild, pH-neutral soap based on natural ingredients.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaning agents and cleaners with a low pH value, as these will damage the stone.

This approach will keep your marble or limestone surface beautiful and in optimal condition for years to come.
